It\u2019s a phrase thrown around a lot in Jewish circles.<\/p>\n<p><i><span class=\"glossary_item\">Olam<\/span><\/i>\u00a0means \u201cworld,\u201d and\u00a0<i><span class=\"glossary_item\">tikkun<\/span><\/i>\u2014well, it means all sorts of things. But in this sense, it means \u201crepair.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So\u00a0<i>tikkun olam<\/i>\u00a0means \u201crepairing the world.\u201d Which is what we\u2019re here to do.<\/p>\n<p>Because, in case you didn\u2019t notice, the world is broken. Even the stuff that looks great isn\u2019t anywhere near what it\u2019s supposed to be.<\/p>\n<p>So some people say, \u201cThat\u2019s just the way things are. Live with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Others say, \u201cLet the One who made it fix it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And yet others say, \u201cEscape it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Jews say, \u201cFix it. Whatever you can.
